I read a list of the most trustworthy celebrities. I actually read two separate lists, and surprise, they didn’t agree with each other. The first list from Reader’s Digest, said that Tom Hanks was the most trustworthy celebrity. I wan’t to agree with that. He seems likes a nice guy. Everybody likes Tom Hanks right? He was Forest Gump, he has starred as Walt Disney, and he is starring as Mr. Rodgers in his next movie, and Mr. Rodgers himself was Presbyterian Minister and a television icon, who was generally considered to be the most humble and genuine person you could meet. You wouldn’t just get anybody to portray him, you would get someone of the same character. Wouldn’t you? I mean, Tom Hanks even tried to return a lost ID to a a student in Fordham University. So, you can see why someone may think that Tom hanks is considered trustworthy. He comes across as authentic and genuine.

The second list I read, said that Morgan Freeman was the most trustworthy celebrity. Well, I don’t feel the same way about this as I do about Tom Hanks, but to be fair, he has played the president a couple times, and of course, he has played God a couple times as well in the movies. So, I see that. We trust his voice. Currently, he has a TV series where he is on a quest to find out how most religions perceive life after death, what different civilizations thought about the act of creation, and other big questions that people ask concerning life and God. That’s some heavy stuff to tackle. You wouldn’t put that in the hands of just anybody. You wouldn’t trust just anybody with such personal and possible life changing topics such as creation and even, the crucifixion and Jesus. However, I read that most people would trust anything Morgan Freeman says. So there you go.

The point is, we all have different ways we gage trust. We have people we trust and some we don’t. Some people we trust for helping us if our car breaks down, but we wouldn’t trust them to watch our kids, and others we would trust with our kids, but we don’t want them touching our car.. you understand.

We live in a culture today that says “Don’t trust anything or anybody, ” yet, the question must be asked, who would you trust with your life? Is there one person you could trust with every little aspect of your life, from the smallest details to the biggest crisis?

Can you trust celebrities with your life? Are you willing to place your life in the hands of Tom Hanks or Morgan Freeman?

What about Jesus? Would you place your life in Jesus’ hands?

What if I told you he was the most trustworthy person to be found. Ever. Would that make a difference?

You see, Jesus is the only person who keeps his word on everything. He does not lie, he will not change, he keeps his word on everything he says, and with that, every promise He makes He will fulfill. Every single one.

How do we know this? Because He died and rose again. AS HE SAID.

What did He say?, He said, that He, the Son of Man, would be killed and then on the third day, he would rise again. It was a preposterous idea. Not even his disciples clearly understood what he meant, and they had no predisposition to believe in the resurrection. At one time Peter took him aside and rebuked him for saying such nonsense. When the women went to the grave Sunday morning, the first day of the week, they expected to see a dead body. Wrapped in linen. A body they could anoint with oils to cover up the smells of the decomposition.

However, what they found was the opposite. They found the stone rolled away, they found an empty grave and they found and angel that told them, that Jesus had risen, just as he said.

AS HE SAID.

What does that mean for us? It means he is faithful and keeps his word. It means he is trustworthy. If Jesus kept his word concerning his death and resurrection, then what else do you have to worry about? Those three words are the difference between life and death. Those three words are life.

So, I have to ask, as Jesus asked Martha in John chapter 11, right after he stated ““I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me will live, even though he dies. And everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die.”

I have to ask, do you believe this?

Believe it. There is no one better to place our trust in then Jesus.

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Rich
